A woman who stole £100,000 from the pharmacy where she worked for more than 20 years has been jailed.

Lisa Cavanagh, 38, of Chester Street, Barrow, took the money from Coward's Pharmacy in the town between 2009 and 2014.

The administrator was jailed for 18 months at Preston Crown Court having admitted theft.

Cumbria Police said she spent the money on holidays and "other extravagant purchases".

Det Con Sarah McArthur said Cavanagh had worked at the pharmacy on Hartington Street for about 23 years and was "treated like one of the family".

She said: "She breached the trust of those she worked for and they have been saddened by her actions - they feel completely betrayed."
