Ali Mohammed Khawaja: Tribute to crash death van driver

A van driver who died after being involved in a crash with a lorry in Cumbria was "a great-hearted person", his family have said.

Ali Mohammed Khawaja died on Sunday after his Mercedes Sprinter collided with the truck on the A590 on 23 May.

The 33-year-old, from Preston, died in the Royal Preston Hospital following the crash, which happened near Haverthwaite.

The 48-year-old driver of the truck, who has not been named, was uninjured.

'Sadly missed'

In a statement released through Cumbria Police, Mr Khawaja's family said: "Ali was loved by so many people and he always had a cheeky smile.

"He was a great-hearted person who was there for everyone and anyone.

"He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Preston and Lancaster have been rocked by such devastating news."

Cumbria Police have appealed for witnesses.
