Over-55s housing in Swadlincote nearer completion

The creation of a £20m housing facility for older people in Swadlincote has taken a step nearer completion.

A ground-breaking ceremony took place for the site, which will provide a community care centre and houses for rent for people aged over 55.

There will also be a range of facilities including a gym, restaurant and IT suite.

But Councillor John Lemmon said the state-of-the-art centre would also benefit the whole community.

He said: "It is part of the Swadlincote core, it is not just an isolated development. It is supposed to provide an asset to the whole community."

The Extra Care Development will be based in Hall Farm Road in Swadlincote.

It is expected to take around 21 months to complete.

The development is a partnership between South Derbyshire District Council, Derbyshire County Council and the Trident Group.
