Mass 'Slumdog' dancing in Derby's Market Square

People at Derby's South Asian Arts Festival have been invited to help re-create the closing sequence of the film "Slumdog Millionaire" in a mass dance.

They were being challenged to learn at least five steps from "Jai Ho", the dance at the end of the film and join in a performance in the Market Place.

Organisers Surtal Asian Arts hope to make the festival an annual event.

The festival, which showcases food, art and dance from the region is normally run every three years.

Gopa Nath from Surtal Asian Arts said: "There will also be loads of opportunities for the audience to get involved including the chance to turn the whole Market Place into a dance floor.

"Derby is a wonderfully multi-cultural city and the unique thing about this festival compared with similar events around the UK is that we recognise the influences that the music and dance have on each other cultures and have brought these together in an exciting entertainment line-up."

Sunday's event forms part of the Summer Rhythms 2010 programme.
