Retail park plan for Wraggs Pipes factory site
A listed former factory in Derbyshire is to be converted into a retail park.
South Derbyshire District Council has approved plans for the redevelopment of the former Wraggs Pipes site in Coppice Side, Swadlincote.
The scheme will see 10 retail units, a five-screen cinema and seven units for restaurants, bars or pubs.
Four of the oldest buildings on site, next to the landmark chimney, will be refurbished and converted. Part of the area already holds a supermarket.
A total of 229 car parking spaces will also be made available.
Frank McArdle, Chief Executive of South Derbyshire District Council, said: "I would compliment the developer on having worked tirelessly to bring in this huge investment into the town, particularly through these last two years of recession.
"I think it is a clear indication of the confidence that the business community has in South Derbyshire, and in Swadlincote in particular."
