Warning after thefts from vehicle rise in Derby

Motorists have been urged to ensure they lock their cars after an increase in thefts from vehicles in Derby.

Police said there had been a spate of thefts recently in Chellaston, Alvaston, Osmaston, Allestree, the West End, Spondon, Oakwood and Littleover.

Officers said criminals were walking and cycling through streets looking for parked cars left unlocked with valuables inside.

Extra police patrols are being put on in the areas to tackle the problem.
