A shopkeeper in Derby has been threatened with a knife during an attempted robbery.

The 68-year-old had closed his shop in St Thomas Road late on Thursday when a man forced open the metal shutters and entered the shop.

He threatened the shopkeeper with the knife and demanded cash but fled empty-handed when the owner refused and picked up a stick.

The suspect was described as white, in his mid-20s and 5ft 4in (1.63m) tall.

He wore a grey cap, grey jacket and dark trousers, with a black stocking over his face.
