Derbyshire council to consider £150,000 CCTV upgrade

A Derbyshire borough council is considering spending £150,000 on an upgrade of its CCTV camera system.

Erewash Borough Council's CCTV system monitors the town centres of Ilkeston and Long Eaton and is operated by the police and the local authority.

Councillor Carol Hart said the equipment is outdated and needs replacing with digital cameras that provide clearer images.

The proposal will be considered by the council on 15 September.

Ms Hart said: "The cameras need replacing because they are well past their sell-by date. We need the better digitally-enhanced cameras as they lead to a better detection rate."
