Alert over Derbyshire letter box burglaries

A series of burglaries where keys were used to get into houses in Derbyshire have prompted a warning from police.

Last week a stick and hook was put through a letter box in Batham Road, Bradwell, to take keys from a table.

While nothing was taken, it followed a similar incident on 6 September which saw a Toyota Auris taken from a house in Glossop.

Officers said cars were also taken in Bradwell and Hathersage in July and asked householders to keep keys hidden.

Police added they were mounting extra patrols across the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales in response.

Insp Bryan Hall said: "We want to encourage people not to leave their keys near to external doors or where they can be seen through a window.

"Ideally, you should take your keys upstairs with you when you go to bed."
