Drivers stopped in seatbelt checks in Derby

Police have stopped 68 drivers who were not wearing seatbelts as part of a crackdown in Derby.

Twenty-one drivers were given a fixed penalty notice - the other 47 received a verbal warning during the operation on Keddleston Road on Thursday.

A further 14 motorists were stopped for using their mobile phone while driving.

Sgt Rachel Frost said: "Seatbelts can save lives and using a mobile phone behind the wheel can easily distract a driver and cause an accident."
