Plans to fill in quarry where teenager drowned

Plans have been announced to fill in a disused quarry where a 15-year-old boy drowned in Derbyshire.

Ryan Walker died while swimming in the lake at Far Hill quarry near Ashover in May 2008. Since then his family have fought to get the site made safe.

An excavation company is applying for permission to fill it in, and the plans are on show in the village at the Ashover Parish Rooms.

Ryan's step-father Jason Clark said the family were very pleased.

He said: "We're absolutely over the moon about it. It's a result we've been wanting for quite some time now. I just hope that it does go through and get finalised...

"It's brought a peace of mind to us and for other families because obviously it's not just our son who used to go up there."
