New extension for Derbyshire primary school

An £892,000 extension at a Derbyshire primary school has been officially opened.

Morton Primary School on Main Road in Alfreton now has two extra classrooms and a new reception office, headteacher's office and toilets.

The majority of the funding for the project came from Derbyshire County Council. The school contributed £80,000 towards the work.

Headteacher Evelyn Charles said the new facilities were "wonderful".

"They [the facilities] will add to the school's excellent learning environment and give us even better opportunities to help children fulfil their potential in stimulating and modern surroundings," added Ms Charles.

Work on the extension began in July 2009.
