Exhibition of Belper leisure centre options

A public exhibition is being held over plans to build a swimming pool and leisure centre in a Derbyshire town.

Amber Valley District Council says facilities in Belper are too limited and wants to hear residents' views on proposals for a complex off Field Lane.

Developer Landmark Cannon LLP has drawn up two options, which are on show at the Lion Hotel on Tuesday evening.

The consultation follows a series of displays in council offices and supermarkets around the town.

The first option is for a development including a pool, health spa, hydrotherapy and sauna facilities, as well as a dance and aerobic studio and a large fitness suite with cafe.

The second is for a smaller pool and fitness suite, with an aerobic studio and a sports hall.

Council leader Stuart Bradford said the authority wanted to find out how feasible such a facility would be, and stressed that it needed to be affordable.

He said: "We're particularly keen to hear from individual members of the public and I would urge anyone who has an interest to attend the public exhibition and to make their views known."
