House fire closes main Derby road

A main road into Derby has been closed because of a house fire.

The incident began just before 1100 GMT in a terrace on Osmaston Road and the area was sealed off between Ascot Drive and Cotton Lane.

Fire crews stopped the blaze spreading to other properties but the roof of one house was destroyed.

No one is believed to have been injured but nearby residents had to be evacuated when smoke got into their homes.

The closure caused traffic congestion for most of the day. The road reopened on Friday evening but with temporary traffic lights in place.

The cause of the incident is still being investigated.
