Homes evacuated after explosion in Derby restaurants

Many nearby roads were closed following the explosion on Normanton Road

A number of people were evacuated from their homes following an explosion and fire at two fast food restaurants in Derby.

Emergency services were called to Khyber Pass and Lick'n Chick'n on Normanton Road at about 0345 GMT.

Nearby roads were cordoned off and several people evacuated from their homes. Others were told to remain indoors and keep windows closed.

An investigation is under way into the cause of the explosion.

There were no reports of any injuries.
