New powers to seize alcohol in south Chesterfield

  • Published

Police are being given powers to confiscate alcohol in an area of Chesterfield in a bid to cut disorder.

A Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) covering Queen's Park, St Augustine's Road, Bacon's Lane and Birdholme Park, is being introduced from Monday.

It comes after residents reported that large groups of people were shouting abuse, causing damage and littering.

The order does not make it illegal to drink in the area, but anyone asked to hand over alcohol must do so.

Anyone who fails to comply could be arrested or fined £500.
