Cyclists urged to keep bikes safe in Derbyshire Dales

Bicycle owners in the Derbyshire Dales are being urged to keep their bikes secure.

Police have issued the warning after a rise in thefts in the area.

The most recent was of a woman's Raleigh Pioneer bike taken from a town centre car park in Bakewell between 1030 and 1130 BST on Monday.

Cyclists can cut the risk of theft by keeping bikes stored in locked garages or sheds or by securing them with lock and chain to a strong anchor point.

Other prevention measures include having cycles security marked or engraved and registering them with Immobilise, the national property register.
