Derbyshire road safety operation seizes van

A van has been seized, seven cars taken off the road and dozens of drivers warned during a road safety exercise.

Derbyshire police and highways officers stopped vehicles on the A632 at Arkwright on Wednesday.

The driver of the van was found to have no insurance, the seven cars had serious defects and 28 motorists were caught not wearing seatbelts.

Other offences including using a mobile phone while driving, number plate offences and illegal window tinting.

Offices from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency issued notices that the unsafe vehicles must retake their MOT.

Sgt Sally Blaiklock, who is in charge of neighbourhood policing in the Clay Cross area, said: "We have acted on residents' concerns and carried out this operation and achieved good results.

"It is a reminder to motorists to be responsible drivers and keep their vehicles safe and legal to use on our roads."

Motorists were issued with on the spot fines.
