Teachers strike over academy plans at Ilkeston School
Members of the NASUWT teaching union have staged a day's strike action at a school in Derbyshire.
About 34 staff are opposing plans to convert Ilkeston School into an academy, which they fear may impact on working conditions.
Younger pupils have been told to stay at home but the school said external exams were taking place as planned.
Two more strikes are planned for next week. The school consultation on academy status ends on Friday.
Governors are due to meet on Monday to decide whether or not continue with the next stage of the academy conversion process with a final decision due in July.
Dave Wilkinson, NASUWT executive member for Derby and Derbyshire, said the union had asked school governors and the Ormiston Trust, the proposed sponsor, to postpone their plans by at least a term.
