Pensioner killed in Christmas Day fire is named

A pensioner who died after a house fire on Christmas Day has been named as James Arthur Broadhead.

An inquest into the 79-year-old's death has opened and adjourned at North Derbyshire Coroner's Court.

A neighbour and Mr Broadhead's son-in-law dragged him out of his house on Castle Hill, Eckington, but were unable to resuscitate him.

Paramedics also tried to resuscitate Mr Broadhead but pronounced him dead at the scene.

Neighbours called the emergency services after seeing smoke coming from the house.

He was found in the house at about 21:00 GMT, a fire spokesman said.

Police are not treating his death as suspicious.
