Campaign for new Langwith parish council

More than 300 people have signed a petition calling for a new parish council to be set up in Derbyshire.

Residents in Langwith, Whaley Thorns, Upper Langwith and Langwith Junction want to establish a new Parish of Langwith.

The villages are currently served by Scarcliffe Parish Council.

The petition has been handed into Bolsover District Council and the authority is now carrying out a consultation on the plans.

The council's leader, Councillor Eion Watts, said: "We reviewed the initial request and have taken into account what local residents wanted.

"We now want to get local residents' opinions on our recommendations so that anything introduced in the future is representative of their views."

Residents have until 30 April to give their views on the proposal.
