Man dies after assault on Sadler Gate in Derby

A murder investigation has begun after a man died following an assault in the centre of Derby.

Police said the 24-year-old was knocked to the ground and attacked near The Old Bell on Sadler Gate at about 03:30 BST on Monday.

He was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital but died later.

Two men, aged 29 and 45, have been arrested and are in custody. A post-mortem has yet to take place and police have appealed for witnesses.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
