A play area designed to attract young people to the Derbyshire countryside has been opened.

The £70,000 adventure playground at Shipley Country Park, near Heanor and Ilkeston, has a 50m cable-way, a big slide, swings and climbing equipment.

Derbyshire Country Council put £40,000 towards the area, with the rest coming from national play funding.

A second phase costing a further £40,000 will be funded by UK Coal, and will start in the summer.

Councillor Simon Spencer, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "This is part of our aim to encourage as many people as we can to get out there and enjoy the Derbyshire countryside."
