A swimming pool targeted in an arson attack six months ago is set to reopen following major repairs.

Derbyshire Dales District Council's Ashbourne Leisure Centre was closed after a teenager set a fire to a bin at the property in July.

Konrad Stoch, 18, of Ashbourne Road was given a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to arson.

Ashbourne district councillor Steve Bull said the fire caused more than £150,000 in damages.

Ashbourne Swimming Club used other pools, including those at Mickleover and Denstone School, during the closure.

"A lot of people depended on the pool for leisure activities and for a place to meet," Mr Bull said.

Stoch was given a 20-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.
