A Devon-based building firm has gone into administration with the loss of more than 100 jobs.

Beale & Cole, which was established in 1967, has its head office in Exeter, with further offices in Barnstaple, Plymouth and Yeovil in Somerset.

Administrative receiver BDO confirmed 118 people have been made redundant with immediate effect.

The firm's service and maintenance arm has been sold to Integral UK Holdings as a "going concern" - saving 22 jobs.

The firm provides services for mechanical and electrical engineering, plus air conditioning and security equipment.

Mark Roach, BDO business restructuring director, said: "Unfortunately the economic climate and difficult trading conditions have significantly affected the industry.

"It's positive news that with the assistance of Integral, we were able to sell part of the company and secure 22 jobs, but regrettable that redundancies have had to be made."

Tim Jones from Devon and Cornwall Business Council said the closure of Beale & Cole could have a ripple affect on related service companies across the region.
