Part of a Devon beach was sealed off after a metal detectorist found a hand grenade.

Broadsands Beach at Paignton was closed after the device, believed to be from World War II, was discovered on Tuesday morning.

Royal Navy bomb disposal officers were called in and destroyed it.

Coastguards said it was confirmed that the device was live and that it was fortunate it was not found by a child who might have played with it.
