Five arrested after Whitchurch robbery by masked gang

Five people have been arrested following an armed robbery in Devon.

Police said a masked gang armed with knives broke into a house in the village of Whitchurch, near Tavistock, just after midnight.

The gang, who were wearing balaclavas, stole property from the house in Skylark Rise. No-one was injured.

Police believe the house was specifically targeted and have appealed to anyone with information to contact them.

Five men were arrested near the scene and most of the stolen property recovered.

Insp Andy Oliver said: "This is an isolated incident and not the sort the sort of thing that happens in this area.

"We are investigating why the occupants were targeted but at this time it appears that this was not a random crime and that the wider public were not at risk from these males."
