Part of the main trunk road between Devon and Cornwall has been closed because of a serious accident.

Police said two cars and a lorry were involved in the crash on the A30 between Okehampton and Whiddon Down at about 0830 BST.

An elderly man was critically injured in the crash and airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by the Devon Air Ambulance.

His condition is not known, but the injuries are life-threatening.

A police spokesman said the victim is a man in his 80s from the Hayle area.

The road was closed for several hours and traffic diverted off the A30. One lane has been reopened.
