Man, 56, arrested after A30 Whiddon Down crash

A man has been arrested following a serious accident in Devon on Saturday.

An 82-year-old man, believed to be from the Hayle area of Cornwall, was critically injured in the crash on the A30 at Whiddon Down.

Two cars and a lorry were involved in the accident, but there were no other serious injuries.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 56-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving without due care and attention.

He has been released on police bail.

The road, which is the main trunk route between Devon and Cornwall, was closed for 10 hours for accident investigations and vehicle recovery.

A police spokesman said the elderly crash victim remained in a critical condition at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital
