Devon jobless claimant count up for second month

The number of people out of work and claiming benefit in Devon has risen slightly for the second month in a row.

According to the Office for National Statistics, the figure rose to 8,660 in November - an increase of 445 on the previous month.

Nationally, the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance fell by 1,200 to 1.46 million.

Devon's rate however, at 1.9%, remains considerably lower than the equivalent UK rate of 3.5%.
