Torquay crash victim, 19, named by police

A teenager killed in a car accident in Devon on Wednesday night has been named by police.

Laura Searson, 19, of Pimm Road, Paignton, was a passenger in a Citroen Saxo which crashed near Torre railway station.

She suffered fatal injuries in the accident just before midnight.

The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail until 15 March.

Weather conditions

Devon and Cornwall Police have appealed for witnesses.

Officers would particularly like to speak to a pedestrian who was seen on CCTV walking out of Old Woods Hill and onto Newton Road a few minutes before the crash.

"The weather at the time of the collision was poor and this is one element of the investigation that is being looked at," Sgt Olly Tayler said.

"Our thoughts are with Laura's family at this very difficult time and we ask that people do not speculate as to what has happened but to allow the police investigation to be concluded."
