House-to-house inquires are being made by police investigating a rape in Plymouth.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the victim was injured in the attack in the Mutley area of the city in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The offender is described as a slim-built man, aged 20 to 25, about 5ft 5in (1.65m) tall, wearing a black hooded top.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Det Insp Steve Parker, from the force's major crime investigation team, said a team of detectives had been assigned to the "complex investigation" which was in its early stages.

He said: "An initial search and forensic examination has taken place at the scene... and further searches and house to house enquiries will continue today."

The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.

"She suffered minor injuries during the attack and is understandably extremely upset by this incident," Mr Parker added.
