Plymouth man guilty of New Year's Day rape
A man has pleaded guilty to raping a woman in the early hours of New Year's Day in Plymouth.
Michel Andrade de Souza, 23, from Plymouth, admitted three counts of rape when he appeared at Plymouth Crown Court.
He pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted rape and one of robbery and was remanded in custody until his sentencing on 8 April.
The victim was attacked in College Lane in the Mutley Plain area of Plymouth.
Judge Francis Gilbert ordered the attempted rape and robbery charges to lie on file.
De Souza was arrested in London two weeks after the attack.
Detectives had uploaded CCTV footage of the then unknown suspect onto the You Tube website in the hope someone would be able to identify him.
Thousands of posters featuring a still of De Souza were also distributed throughout Plymouth.
