The University of Plymouth is to shed what it describes as "a small number" of jobs in admissions and human resources roles, it has confirmed.

No figures have been given, but consultations with staff and unions have begun over options such as voluntary redundancy and reduced hours.

It said the move was necessary because of national funding changes and some short-term projects were ending.

The institution, one of the area's biggest employers, has 3,000 staff.
