Exeter man charged with Marks and Spencer arson

A man accused of setting fire to a city centre store in Devon has appeared in court.

Emergency services were called to Marks and Spencer in Exeter's High Street at about 0420 GMT on Saturday.

Crews used breathing apparatus to fight the fire, which involved clothing on the first floor of the retail store.

A 43-year-old man from Beacon Lane, Exeter, appeared at Exeter Magistrates' Court charged with arson. He was remanded in custody until March.

He was due to appear before magistrates again on 4 March, the court said.
