Teacher Kenneth Anbany jailed for pupil rape

A former Devon teacher who raped one of his pupils after a school disco has been jailed for nine years.

Kenneth Anbany, 63, of Stockport, Greater Manchester, attacked the girl when he worked at Dartmouth Community College in the 1980s, Exeter Crown Court heard.

The victim came forward after hearing about another attack by Anbany.

Anbany was convicted earlier of rape and two counts of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency.

Secluded lane

The court had heard he had been "policing" the school disco on the night of the rape when he encountered the girl coming out of the toilets.

The victim told the court she naively agreed to go to his car because she wanted to tell him to stop pestering her.

Instead he drove her a short distance to a secluded lane and raped her.

It was not until she saw reports in 2009 about Anbany being convicted for an offence involving another Exeter schoolgirl that she came forward.

The court also heard that Anbany had a child with a teenager he met at a school in Berkshire.

Judge Graham Cottle told Anbany: "Your past has finally caught up with you.

"You must receive the punishment that you have for too long been able to avoid."
