Three teenagers were rescued from the banks of the River Tavy after a two hour search on Thursday night.

Police received a call from two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old at about 2230 BST, after they got lost in woods at Tamerton Foliot in Plymouth.

A police helicopter, two lifeboats and coastguard search teams scoured the area before they were found.

The teenagers were rescued near Bere Ferrers. The emergency services said they had a "lucky escape".

Mick Cook, of Brixham Coastguards, said: "It could have been very dangerous with all the creeks in the area.

"The safety message is let people know where you're going and wear appropriate clothing."
