Man dies after collapsing in Exeter Great West Run

A man died after collapsing while taking part in a half-marathon in a Devon city.

The man, who has not been named, collapsed in Southernhay Gardens in Exeter during the 27th annual Great West Run on Sunday afternoon.

Run director Pete Ferlie said St John Ambulance and doctors aided the man on site. He was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where he died.

Mr Ferlie said: "Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family."

More than 2,000 people took part in the run.
