A teenage boy from east Devon has appeared in court charged with raping a 12-year-old girl.

The 14-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of raping the girl twice in Exeter on two days last October.

He was also charged with attempted rape and inciting her to engage in sexual activity, Exeter Youth Court heard.

The youth did not enter any pleas and the case was adjourned until July. He was released on unconditional bail.

Exeter Youth Court said the allegations were so serious they would have to be heard at the city's crown court.
