Torquay boy run over by car left badly injured

An eight-year-old pedestrian has been seriously injured in Devon.

Police were called to Audley Avenue in Torquay at about 19:25 BST on Thursday after the boy was knocked down by a Mitsubishi Carisma car.

The boy, from the local area, received serious head injuries and was first taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital, police said.

He was then transferred to a specialist unit in Bristol. Police are investigating the accident.
