A man has been taken to hospital after being rescued from mud in a Devon estuary.

It is thought the man fell into the estuary at Kingsbridge at low tide. Another man who climbed down to rescue him also became stuck fast in the mud.

Prawle coastguard team, Teignmouth mud rescue, police, fire service and ambulance personnel were all involved in the operation.

Specialist mud mats and equipment had to be used to rescue the men.

A spokesman from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the estuary can be potentially dangerous.

"You shouldn't try to rescue someone yourself because you need those specialist mud mats," he said.

"Our advice is to leave it to the experts."
