Eight deported after Border Agency raids in Plymouth

Eight people are to be deported after being arrested in Border Agency raids on five restaurants in Plymouth.

The arrests include: two Nepalese men, aged 23 and 26; a 23-year-old Malaysian woman; three Malaysian men, aged 23, 31 and 53; a 26-year-old Chinese man and a 39-year-old Chinese woman.

Offences included visa breaches, the agency said.

Some were also being removed for staying after failed asylum claims and entering the UK illegally, it added.

Any business which was unable to show that the correct pre-employment checks were made on staff faced fines of up to £10,000 for each illegal worker, the agency said.
