Exeter police holding knife amnesty

A two-week amnesty for people to hand in knives and other bladed weapons to police has begun in Exeter.

The campaign, which runs until Thursday 10 May, was a "safe way for people to get rid of unwanted and dangerous items", officers said.

People could deposit items in special bins at Heavitree police station without question, they added.

The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is four years in prison and a fine of £5,000.
