Police are investigating after two ponies were attacked by a dog on Dartmoor.
The foal and mare were attacked near Dousland, on Sunday, at about 13:25 BST.
Both animals were taken to the South West Equine Protection Centre (SWEP), near Princetown, where the foal was put down by a vet.
Devon and Cornwall Police said it was investigating the incident and the dog had since been put down.
Maureen Rolls, from SWEP, said the injuries to the foal were "so severe the vet had to destroy it and put it down".
Officers are investigating whether there is a link between the incident and earlier reports of sheep worrying on the moor.
SWEP is a charity which rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes abused, neglected and abandoned horses and ponies.
