Public inquiry into South Molton wind farm plans

A public inquiry has started into whether a wind farm should be built near South Molton in north Devon.

Plans for nine 103m (337ft) tall turbines at Batsworthy were rejected by North Devon District Council last June.

RWE Npower Renewables has appealed against the decision and the Planning Inspectorate is to decide whether it will go ahead.

The inquiry, being held at Bishops Nympton Parish Hall, is expected to last for 15 days, the council said.

The application was first submitted in 2006.

It was turned down by the council in 2011 because of concerns about the potential impact of the project on the landscape and buildings.
