Tavistock recycling centre fire

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service have spent more than four hours tackling a blaze at a recycling centre near Tavistock.

Approximately 30 tonnes of rubbish was on fire when emergency services forced their way onto the site at Crowndale Road at 02:45 BST.

Crews were called in from Tavistock, Yelverton, Plympton and Ivybridge.

Fire officer Dale Durante said there were "deep seated residual pockets of fire".

Mr Durante said: "We are methodically working through the waste with a mechanical digger to make sure all the pockets of fire are put out."
