A teenager from Berkshire has been taken to hospital after being injured on Dartmoor.

The girl, who was on a Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition, suffered serious leg injuries in an accident at Shipley Bridge, near South Brent.

Dartmoor Rescue Group said 18 volunteers were involved in the rescue in poor weather conditions.

The girl was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. Her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award charity said the aim of the expedition was to help develop teamwork and leadership by challenging young people to "push themselves beyond their expectations".

The injured teenager is believed to have been taking part in the expedition with a scout group.
