Ban on extra bin bags introduced by North Devon Council
A so-called "side waste" ban is being introduced full-time by a Devon council in a bid to encourage more recycling.
North Devon Council said a successful pilot scheme had seen it stop taking extra bin bags left on top of or around bins. A full ban is to be brought in over the next 12 months, it said.
The council added it would provide extra bins for large families if they needed them.
Such a ban is already in place in the East Devon district.
Councillor Rodney Cann - of the Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Independent-led authority - said the pilot scheme had "worked very well".
He added: "Instead of just dumping it, they will recycle, and that's our objective here."
