Plymouth dispersal order begins in run-up to Christmas

An initiative to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime has begun in Plymouth in the run-up to Christmas.

The dispersal order covers Union Street, Barbican Leisure Park, North Hill and Mutley Plain, in the city centre.

Devon and Cornwall Police requested the order which will run from 2 November until 8 January.

The order allows officers to move people from an area when they are deemed to be causing a nuisance.

A council spokesman said the dispersal order would be used alongside patrols by specialist police officers, street pastors and the use of CCTV cameras to help tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.
