A man and woman who were trapped in a quarry in Devon have been rescued by helicopter.

The couple, believed to be in their 50s, were walking the South West Coast Path from Torcross to Start Point when they became stuck about 100ft (30m) up Beesands Quarry.

Coastguards rescue teams from Prawle and Dartmouth were also involved in the rescue just before midday.

An RAF helicopter from RMB Chivenor airlifted the couple to safety.

Paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust checked the shocked couple over, but they were physically uninjured.

Families on the beach at Beesands were moved to safety while the helicopter rescue crew winched the man and woman to the top of the cliff.
